Frequently asked questions

  • Your initial consult will last up to 1 hour. This allows sufficient time for me to understand more about you, your pelvic health and work out your personalised goal list. There will also be an assessment.

Your assessment may include examination of abdominal, back and lower body muscles, joints and function; and/or an external or internal pelvic examination.

We will then work together to design a tailored program and plan to help you achieve your goals.

  • Initially this may include external visual inspection and if necessary an internal assessment of the pelvic floor muscles (this may include an internal rectal and/or vaginal assessment).

The external visual inspection involves the physiotherapist parting either the buttocks (anal and/or perineal inspection) or the labia (vaginal and/or perineal inspection) to visually inspect and assess the tissue and muscle function.

The internal assessment involves the insertion of one or two gloved lubricated fingers into the rectum and/or the vagina. This examination is often performed laying down on the therapy table, however, occasionally we may ask permission to do this when you are standing.

Your physiotherapist will explain the examination in your session and ask for your (or for paediatrics you and your child's) verbal consent again at the time of the examination if we believe it would be of benefit to assessment and treatment.

Please note you (or for paediatrics your child) may ask the physiotherapist to stop at any point during the examination.

  • Absolutely with your permission.

Most pelvic conditions require a multidisciplinary team approach and my philosophy is team work makes the dream work!

Of course anything you wish to keep just between us will remain so

  • I understand situations may arise where you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, I ask that you provide me with at least 24 hours notice (24 operational hours, i.e. a Monday appointment will need to notify us by the previous Friday morning). You can contact the clinic at which your appointment is booked and the friendly reception staff will be happy to help.

Appointments cancelled within 24 hours will incur a fee equal to 100% of your consultation fee.

  • I totally understand, pelvic health is a whole other world.
